Sri Lanka's first AI Water Management System

Water is a precious resource. But there exist only 2-3% of the planet earth's water which is usable for humans and animals. Because water cannot be reproduced,  it is essential to manage water resource. Therefore humans invented numerous ways of managing water,  ranging from manual to automatic.

But the problem in these systems is,  in the case of an emergency like a Fire these present systems can't demand for water neither the reservoir nor from the tanks. Additionally if the city needs more water than supplied from the tanks the city can't request for additional water. Due to this static Water Management Systems are not a good alternative for the water management problem.

Researching on this problem a group of undergraduates of Informatics Institute of Technology(IIT) came up with a perfect solution which provides ideal solutions for these problems. They came up with a system called  e-WMS or e-Water Management System which is a  dynamic water management system which provides the opportunity to the city to request for water at any given time.

Chandira Punchihewa, Heshan Cooray, Fahiz Mohomad, Thushari Kariyawasam, Rashika Fazali, Thiruthika Sivasubramanium and Inshake Fernando contributed in developing this great system.

Ms.Kulari Lokuge of IIT was the supervisor of this massive project.

Please visit the E-WMS stall in the Cutting Edge 2010 which will be held on 18th June 2010 at IIT premises to learn more about this AI Water Management System.

Middle Order Run Drought

The talking point of the recent tours of Sri Lankan Cricket team was the run drought of their middle order. For many years Sri Lanka faced a severe crisis of their middle order batsman failing to score runs. This even resulted on loosing matches and even tournaments.

But yesterday's match showed us the strength we got in our middle order. Well, we didn't have a perfect start. It was really a slow pitch. Sri Lankan guns Dilshan and Jayasuriya struggled to make bat on ball. The top order collapsed due to this and black caps had tightened the screws with excellent fielding and brilliant bowling. Vettori and McCullum slowed the run rate and Sri Lankans were in nowhere when they were 5/69. Then came the great 127 run partnership between Thilan Samaraweera and Anjelo Mathews in a very quick rate. Finally Samaraweera made his maiden ODI century and Mattews scoring a quick 50.

The specialty of this match was that middle order succeeded for the first time in many years. Sri Lankans searched for a good middle order pair. They finally got it at the right time. It will be a good sign ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Congratulations on the victory and hope you will continue the good work !!!!

Bing

Nowadays there are so many search engines such as Google , Ask.com, Yahoo! Search etc. But it is a big question whether the search engine gives us the result we need. All the search engines provide all the results which consists of that "search string" entered by the user. Sometimes the user have to browse another page to search for the result he wanted.
But don't we have a solution for this?

Today we have a solution , with the latest search engine "Bing" which was invented by Microsoft this year. This was originally launched on June 03, 2009. It is not just a search engine , it can make decisions according to the output. For the dull looking result , the Bing will display the result which is categorized into different sections. So it's easy to find the result.

So why not you try to browse something with Bing?
